Keith Johnston – Oxfam

Image29Debbie Whitestone and I had a lovely dinner last night with Keith Johnston, the founding chair of Oxfam New Zealand and now chair of Oxfam International. As he says on his website, “I believe that as global citizens it is within our power to eliminate poverty and to confront injustice. Working with Oxfam on local, national and global change is one of many ways we can act. For me, it is the most effective thing I can do.”

Previously, Keith was a senior manager for the Department of Conservation for fifteen years. In 2008, he completed a PhD at the Australian National University, focusing leadership and the sustainable management of the environment.

Keith is one of a growing number of people who are seeing a connection between more advanced levels of leadership and an emerging commitment and capacity for developing and leading sustainable organizations.
